The coronavirus variant first discovered in South Africa is able to evade some of the protection of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to an Israeli study.

Researchers at Tel Aviv University and Clalit, the largest health-care organization in Israel, examined nearly 400 people who had tested positive for Covid-19 after receiving at least one dose of the vaccine. They compared them to the same number of people who were infected and unvaccinated.

"Based on patterns in the general population, we would have expected just one case of the South African variant, but we saw eight," Professor Adi Stern, who headed the research,CNBC has reached out to Pfizer for comment on the study. Last month, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky issued a dire warning, telling reporters that she worried the United States is facing "impending doom" as variants spread and daily Covid-19 cases begin to rebound once again, threatening to send more people to the hospital.

Israel launched its national vaccination campaign in December prioritizing people 60 and older, health-care workers, and people with comorbid conditions. By February, it was leading the world in vaccinations, inoculating millions of its citizens against the virus.

Wasn't there something about the Pfizer vaccine had the RN agent would help our antibodies fight any new strain?

sandipsabharwal datta_arvind bad news.

Oh wow, who could have guessed!

Vaccine lasts six months, no long term clinical trials....no thanks, I will wear my mask until they get it right!

So it doesn't work on the current variants. What a scam.

No one ever said these vaccine eradicated covid, come on 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Keeping up with the fear!

1 study. Not peer reviewed. Just keep that in mind.

Shut up

spread the fear.....my study says ur study is..... bs.

MomentoAnima Not surprising; we know these viruses evolve, like all life. But vaccines dramatically lower the risk of a severe case, which should make people want to get vaccinated ASAP. The science-deniers put us way behind the curve, dragging out the time it will take to get past this.

Again . Play with this .

Vaccines are only 1 tool in the COVID19 treatment armamentarium but receive +90% of media coverage Variant transmissibility & pathogenicity is stressing vaccine efficacy But VariantAgnostic treatments like $HGEN's lenzilumab have + data & save lives Where is on this?

Oh great
