One mum says she would keep her children off school if it kept her family 'well and safe' from Covid.

She said if Covid cases rose much further she would reluctantly withdraw them from school, and happily face a fine, if it kept her family "well and safe".

Current Wales guidance means children remain home if they have Covid, or need to shield, but no longer have to stay off school if a parent or someone they live with tests positive for coronavirus. This is as long as they no Covid symptoms and have a negative test.

"I'm not willing to gamble our lives for 10 days of education at home. Things are going to come to a point where I'm going to have to put my family's health ahead of my son's education."Irene, from south east Wales, said restrictions should not be put back in place in schools, as children's lives needed to get back to some sense of normality after so much disruption.

Parents keep your children off school if there is a spike in infections at their school,I would rather risk them missing a couple of weeks of school than risk losing their life from Covid-19.

Not to worry kids are already thick so no loss

I'm only commenting because I'm shocked to see a BBC News tweet featuring a white British family

I think the correct statement would be 'Vulnerable parents face penalties for not allowing their children to be around covid close contacts.' A truancy fine is preferable to a dead parent. Fact.

These hyper-ventilating, Covid-theatre-loving, hysterical types are the fuel that keeps this pantomime running

What chance have the children got of learning a common sense attitude with roll models like that

COVID-19 Live Updates: U.S. states ration healthcare, global cases reboundA spiraling number of new COVID-19 patients is overwhelming a growing number of American hospitals as the Delta variant continues to wreak havoc in the U.S. and around the world. Follow Newsweek's liveblog for all the latest. I would say with the availability of vaccines to slow or stop the spread of the virus, it's not the Delta variant continuing to wreak havoc in the U.S., it's those who refuse to get vaccinated who are wreaking havoc in the country.
