Despite inflation, this year is on track for the third-busiest Thanksgiving travel season in over two decades, according to AAA.

John Williams and his wife, Ann, sit for a picture with his family in Los Angeles during Thanksgiving of 2021.John Williams and his wife, Ann, sit for a picture with his family in Los Angeles during Thanksgiving of 2021., but millions of Americans are still planning to travel to be with family and friends next week for Thanksgiving.

John Williams, a retired elementary school teacher, can't wait for his grandchildren to jump into arms. Williams, who lives in Tucson, Arizona, has been saving since August to spend the holiday with his daughter and grandchildren, who live about 500 miles away in Los Angeles. Since then, though, inflation has gripped the country and most of the world, with prices rising at their fastest pace in decades. But Williams said he won't let that be the reason for another Thanksgiving spent apart. Even after hearing horror stories of gas prices of being $7 per gallon in California, he and Ann, a retired orchestra teacher, said they would pay whatever it takes.

Emily Anderson, 32, typically stays in town for Thanksgiving, but this year, she and her husband and their two young sons will make a 14-hour drive up to Pennsylvania from GeorgiaInflation has affected everything, said Anderson. She's spent less on groceries and used less gas – walking down the street to restaurants instead of driving across town to her favorite one.

"It also kind of feels like this year was a breaking point," she said."We just can't be physically apart anymore."But for some, the costs of travel are insurmountable.

Thanks to two years of lockdowns I think that make sense.

And according to AA, it’s on track to be the drunkest holiday season in decades.

It wasn't covid that drove families apart. It was the mandates.

Inflation not the same as price gouging

Covid will just keep killing, bc people, for some reason, think it's over. Stupidity will wipe out our species. That will be a good day for the planet.

Apparently NPR didn't get the memo all other media outlets got-now that you failed to damage the Dems with you over-the-top coverage of inflation, its time to stop it. And, maybe your conclusion here suggests that your inflation coverage really has grossly exaggerated its impacts.

It's sad to think Covid divided families by some believing the the fear tactics. They obviosly did view family as strongly as some.

Not Covid; idiotic Covid policies that NPR was cheering on the entire time.

Inflation my ass

I’m travelling in the opposite direction from my family.
