COVID-19 has killed at least 675,000 Americans, a death toll that has now surpassed that of the 1918 influenza pandemic, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

There are many similarities between the two pandemics. In spring 1918, when the first wave of the Spanish flu hit, the U.S. and its allies were nearing victory in Europe in World War I. Just this summer the U.S. has ended its longest war, the conflict in Afghanistan as COVID cases surge.

In both pandemics, hospitals and funeral homes were overrun and make-shift clinics were opened where space was available. Mask mandates were installed, schools, churches and theaters closed, andAs is the case today, different jurisdictions took different steps to fight the pandemic and some were more successful than others.

According to History.com, in 1918, Philadelphia’s mayor said a popular annual parade could be held. In less than 2 weeks more than 1,000 local residents were dead. But in St. Louis, public gatherings were banned , schools and theaters closed and death toll there was one-eighth of Philadelphia’s. from 1918 during the flu pandemic. How many of those had other medical conditions that COVID exacerbated?

200 total cases, population of 238 million

Any mentions to who let it spread by hiding information and arresting the ones that tried to let the world know

Minus the several hundred thousand that were reported as Covid deaths…but weren’t. Hospitals were paid more, and that’s what it’s all about, right?

Not true.

We learned about population control long ago in school. Maybe this is nature, although it feels very unnatural.

A grim reminder of the devasting impact of Covid-19, folks need to get vaccinated and remain vigilant.

Unfortunate , despite incredible advanced in medicines and science, the death toll Had exceed 100+ years old death toll that too in USA. Obdurate attitude towards vaccine is the solely responsible for this.

I wonder what the true number is...

vsandersbewell Wow! Just wow. So sad!

Bullshit

People must consider vaccination.Lot of young kids are loosing their lives because of Covid.Yesterday visited one hospital in our area and came to know that the hospital was full of kids with respiratory issues.Along with Covid, lot other viral infections are affecting them badly.

COVID has killed about as many Americans as the 1918-19 fluCOVID-19 has now killed about as many Americans as the 1918-19 Spanish flu pandemic did — approximately 675,000. The 1918-19 influenza numbers are rough guesses. The population of the U.S. at the time was about one-third the size of what it is today. Pandemics will do that “Overall Number” wise maybe…. Not percentage wise. Not even close. Nominal comparisons are typically disingenuous.

The US death toll from Covid-19 just surpassed that of the 1918 flu pandemicThe Covid-19 pandemic has now killed more Americans than the 1918 flu pandemic did. More than 675,000 people in the US have died from Covid-19, according to Johns Hopkins University. 210 million more people in US than in 1918. So it’s a win! Ask Dr Tony Fauci why. Well duh… otherwise they would’ve just released more influenza on us instead of this thing called SARS COV 2. 🤦🏻‍♂️ The more people I find who are most scared are the ones who got vaccinated. Forget about diet and exercise though 😒

U.S. Covid-19 Death Toll Surpasses 1918 Flu FatalitiesThe coronavirus has killed 675,000 people nationwide as the Delta variant and low vaccination rates in parts of the country push cases and fatalities to levels far above those seen last summer, before shots were available. Remember when wsj was a respected news source? It’s gone the route of every other MSM news outlet. They need to show some journalistic integrity for once and reveal the actual numbers…not the coordinated/inflated numbers for political reasons Terrible for sure, but for context the number of deaths should be adjusted for population size.
