California’s November election will feature 12 statewide ballot measures.
Virtually the only organized opposition comes from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assn., named for the author of Proposition 13. It dislikes eliminating the heirs’ tax breaks. The California Budget and Policy Center, which is neutral on 19, estimates that 4.2 million homeowners over 55 would benefit. Makes sense to me. It gives older folks an incentive to move out of their empty-nest homes and downsize into more practical dwellings.Proposition 23 would require California’s roughly 600 dialysis clinics to employ at least one doctor to be on-site when patients receive treatment. But they’re already required to have a staff doctor who’s a kidney specialist, although the physician doesn’t always have to be at the clinic. Trained nurses operate the dialysis machines.
The initiative’s sponsor is Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West. It has a history of forcing healthcare companies to spend big bucks on election campaigns if they refuse to unionize.
NO ON PROP. 19. LAT Editorial opposes. Conservatives hate the repeal of parent-child transfer exemption for families, making home ownership harder than ever. Liberals hate social inequity of boomers moving their low tax basis 3 times. Smart voters see the $2B tax hike.
Of course LATimesSkelton is OK with boomers trotting around the state with their low property tax assessments while millennials, saddled with debt, can’t afford their first home, and this will make it even harder. No on Prop 19!
“These kids still are living off their parents, paying miniscule taxes and aren’t legal adults.” Flawed reasoning considering that there’s no min age to get married in CA, also recent generations of young adults have had to live & be supported by parents.
Voters shouldn't vote based on recommendations by Ads, talking heads, endorsements, columnists, editors, newspapers, etc. Voters should do their own research, not be led by the nose. Apathetic voters end up with the government, laws, prop., taxes they deserve and later complain.
People of the world. Please help. My child needs urgent surgery. He has a heart defect. If you can help, go to my profile, all the information about my son's condition is there. If you don't have surgery anytime soon, my son will die. Please help save your son
