Many Republicans refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Canadian Conservatives are more pragmatic.

And there lies a clue toward a deeper, more complex explanation for Canada’s vaccination success over that of the U.S.: the underlying differences between the countries’ political cultures and, especially, their conservative parties.

“There is much less polarization in Canada overall,” Peter Loewen, a political scientist at the University of Toronto, told me. “There’s not a lot of political mileage in appearing to be anti-science in Canada; there is in the United States.”Canadians also differ from Americans in that more of them trust their government to do the right thing.

“In Canada, our number actually bounced up during the pandemic, as people looked to government as a source of salvation,” he told me. “Trust in government, in science and in public health are all interrelated, and they are all key predictors of anti-vax sentiment.” Another difference: Canada’s Conservative Party is more moderate than the post-Trump Republican Party.

“There’s a strain of authoritarian populism in both parties, but it has become the dominant faction in the Republican Party; it’s not as large in Canada,” Graves said.

yes, politics had something to do with it. But... Canada pop. 37,694,085 (July 2020 est.) vs. USA pop.332,639,102 (July 2020 est.). u do the math.

Poor C A N A D A

Your article on Canada surpassing US on vaccinations by Doyle McManus should had how Liberal Govt. supported people, business in 2020 with good programs (agreed by all parties except Cons.), costing Govt. $300 Billion. One program gave each person who lost their job $2000/month.

They have as much people as California. La times bought by the Democratic Party that wants massive hysteria … nothing new. How much is the contract from newsom’s office?

AnitaOakville In no small measure, thanks to you, Minister 👏👏👏!

BasuAshis “The country’s toughest lockdown was imposed by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, a populist conservative who has been compared to former President Trump.”

AnitaOakville A good number of us, including me, did what the Canadian government asked. We took the first vaccine available and we mixed vaccines. Now I see I can’t get on my cruises I have booked. We may have better numbers but they don’t necessarily get Canadians back to normal.

Read this, then try to shame people into getting vaccinated.

Kudos to Cdns. Not the fed/prov govs. Ur making it sound like it was smooth sailing & planned. Lots of distrust w Delays, AZ & mixing. Lockdowns/restrictions 4 17+ mths made us desperate to vax. R hospitals r easily overwhelmed. We will pay for that later as ppl missed care.

..if canada had not held me illegally to keep me prisoner here as if i were an albino while they violated any woman who came near to me..and i had been able to breed and offer evolve like i intended..in time 'covid's' wouldnt be an issue..butcorruptionisgenocidal

So what’s the holdup in letting us in?

Canada is under very strict totalitarian rule- no jab, you become a criminal. Tell the truth!

Shame on us for trying to force someone one to inject an unknown substance in your body… if they don’t want to so be it….I leave you with a famous quote from a movie “if he dies he dies” 😂

They are only 37 million 😂

“Americans’ trust in Washington was as low as 17%; the trust level in Canada was 37%, about twice as high.”

Maybe Canadians have more trust in their leadership? Trump’s continuous spreading of misinformation created a lot of distrust in the American government.

Canadians are known for being decent people, that’s why.

Bno saldrán antes...el resto del mundo nose

American in Canada here. The tv news coverage is so thorough and good in Canada that I forgot that I used to snub it .. when I was in the US. There's no Fox equivalent. And while some conservatives here are just as maddening - they don't appear to be as craven.

The Olympics of Vaccination..

I need you to understand that 1/6 of the country lives in one city. we have 300 million less people than you. we didn't have 45 as president. this is not actually a fair comparison.

Canada has better critical thinking skills across the entire population. This is a result of ensuring all children have access to adequate education and healthcare.

Don't forget to share with the world 🇺🇸🇪🇺👍Covax!!

ItWasACoup Way to go!!!!!! Canada!!!!

We still have our share of anti-vax idiots, and most tend to be conservative bible thumpers.

We only have 38mil people!

Why is JoeBiden failing his vaccination goals?

More like good for them and stupid us.

wow
