Protests in Columbus began peacefully on Saturday but grew heated as police sent tear gas into the crowds. By late afternoon, Gov. Mike DeWine had announced the deployment of the Ohio National Guard to the city. WOSUnews

/Hours before the city's first night of curfew Saturday, Columbus Police dispersed downtown protestors following a day of contentiousover the killing of George Floyd. Police cars were parked on nearly every street, cordoning off the area and leaving the area empty.

Protesters marched peacefully that morning at the Ohio Statehouse, but the environment grew heated as Columbus Police sent tear gas into the crowds. By late afternoon, Gov. Mike DeWine hadthe deployment of the Ohio National Guard to the city, which would come under a 10 p.m. curfew. Around 8 p.m., the streets around the Statehouse were eerily quiet except for the sound of helicopters circling overhead. Many protestors had moved by that point northward on High Street into the Short North.

Those left downtown were met with armored vehicles and a message blaring from a loudspeaker:"You must clear the area. Crowd control devices are going to be used against you. You must clear the area. Regardless of your purpose, you are subject to arrest." Shortly after warning protestors to disperse police in Columbus start firing some sort of wooden projectile. Small groups of protestors are all over the city.

wosunews Great escalation! Just what tactical manual are they using anyway?

wosunews city after city, protests were peaceful until law enforcement came in to escalate the problem and in many cases, target journalists. Seems to me that law enforcement is the problem here.

wosunews Why are police tear gassing? Was it triggered by disorder of the protest or, as we have seen on film in many places, just in response to the fact of the protest?

wosunews Screw CPD. They came to start a fight and they started one

wosunews Yes police tactics across the nation escalated all of these protests. Stay at home, go bankrupt, now you cannot speak freely. This is why we have a second amendment. A milita is there to protect us from jack booted thugs with badges

wosunews I'm still waiting for the day NPR decides to use the word 'fascism' to describe fascism.

wosunews Antifa

wosunews All these cops who have their name tags and badges taped over, right after Floyd’s murder, need to be fired immediately. They are proclaiming to the whole fucking world that they intend to commit pointless violent crimes and get away with it.

wosunews Add this to the list of police-instigated violence. Last night it was as if police nationwide were answering Trump's MAGANIGHT call-to-arms. I think most of us assumed that his tweet was directed at the armed rubes. Now we know it was a call to the MAGA Gestapo.

wosunews 4 Dead in O-H-I-O....

wosunews It’s good to see you getting the framing better.

wosunews This is how to do it.

wosunews “Sent” as in they mailed it to them? They also “sent” them some wooden pellets.

wosunews Thank you for your fine reporting! I listen to you guys everyday. You reported coronavirus before US action. :)

wosunews Protect protestors from the police

wosunews fired, shot*

wosunews Why the hell wasn't the National Guard called out when armed, small-dick motherfuckers were storming capitol buildings with semi-automatic rifles?

floopjack wosunews Thank you so much for reporting this correctly. That's a huge first step. Sorry they had to start shooting at your own for it to happen though--for multiple reasons.

wosunews Imagine that, people get upset when the police riot at them.

wosunews You mean when they started to loot and throw rocks.
