“Justin Wilcox is a football coach who shares our values and vision, and we want to ensure that he is the leader of our program for the long term,” Cal’s AD said.

BERKELEY, CA – NOVEMBER 16: California Golden Bears head coach Justin Wilcox glances up while playing the USC Trojans in the fourth quarter of their game at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019. BERKELEY — Cal football coach Justin Wilcox, who last month turned down a job offer from his alma mater, Oregon, has signed an extension that will keep him with the Golden Bears through the 2027 season.

“Justin Wilcox is a football coach who shares our values and vision, and we want to ensure that he is the leader of our program for the long term,” athletic director Jim Knowlton said in a statement. “He is a great fit for Cal Athletics and our university, with a philosophy that places an emphasis on developing young men on the field, in the classroom and as people.”shortly after he turned down the Ducks.

It has been a busy offseason for Wilcox. Not only was he courted by the Ducks, but he was frustrated with the university’s handling of COVID protocols. In particular, the lack of response to a statement by Berkeley Public Health that accused the program of failing to follow health protocols. Wilcox earned approximately $3.5 million this season, placing him in the middle of the Pac-12. His deal had been scheduled to run through the 2025 season.
