The new land acknowledgment at the Cleveland Museum of Art recognizes the violent dispossession of Native Americans from land now occupied by the institution.

“WE ARE ALL ON NATIVE LAND,’’ the statement begins, in capital letters. It goes on to say that the museum occupies land in a region from which Native Americans were forcibly removed during colonial settlement and the Westward expansion that followed.

About 100 people gathered outside Progressive Field on the Cleveland Indians home opener, Friday, July 24, 2020, to protest the use of the Indians name and logo . The group acknowledged that the team is considering changing the name, but were still trying to make people aware. Peter Jemison, of the Seneca Heron Clan.
