The Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services unit has been looking at Columbus police since September 2021.

Additional information on what will be provided in the 11 a.m. briefing was not immediately available.

Beginning in September 2021, the Justice Department's Community Oriented Policing Services unit started reviewing the Division of Police's policies and operations at the invitation of Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and City Attorney Zach Klein.identify"any and all racial biases in policing efforts" and offer findings and solutions for reform.

"This is not about one particular officer, policy or incident; rather, this is about reforming the entire institution of policing in Columbus," the letter said.Chief Elaine Bryant identified initial areas of potential focus of the review as: policy reviews and evaluation, officer and leadership training, recruitment, technology and establishing an early intervention system for officers.
