The stay-at-home executive order Florida Gov. DeSantis issued last week in a bid to slow the spread of coronavirus doesn't bar churches from holding services.

, Howard-Browne insisted that he was arrested on"trumped-up charges" and said the church"went above and beyond the requirements for secular businesses to protect the health and well-being of the people who attended."

"I have no doubt that these government officials are concerned about being in compliance with those laws," Siddiqi said."These are unprecedented times, however. It is hard to imagine a religious freedom claim would hold up in court in the face of the compelling government interest in protecting our public health in the midst of a pandemic. We know the virus doesn't discriminate between gatherings of people based on whether or not they are religious.

"There appears to be little legal impediments blocking cities or states from shutting down churches — as long as they are not targeting just churches," Shoked said in an email. "The problem is that even if the Supreme Court is much more open to such theories — which it clearly is , they would still allow the state to enforce a general law interfering with religion if there is a strong enough state interest behind that law," Shoked said."Clearly there is one here.""My short answer is they can try to enforce the law and expect it to be litigated," he told NBC News.

WTF?

Great. They can start paying taxes before they kill each other.

Same here in South Carolina. Along with gun stores being deemed essential businesses that can remain open.

....Because he is a moron

So much for separation of church and state

'God will save me from this pandemic' kinda mindset I guess.

Culling of the uninformed

this really buries the lede, its not that it doesn't bar churches from congregating, its that it OVERRULES local ordinances preventing churches from congregating a death sentence for areas where local govs had preventive measures in place (eg Hillsborough, which includes Tampa)

Darwin, Do Your Thing ...

Jesus said it's okay to stay home.

That’s a mistake. It’s going to backfire.

Ignorant.

Manslaughter

Trump their lord saviour should attend the services too.

What could go wrong?

That renders the order useless.

Bashar ( the president of Syria ) killed about one million innocent people and raped thousands of girls and destroyed thousands of citizens houses . Coronavirus killed less than 100,000 around the world . America and Europe are hypocrites

So much for being pro-life

They don't call the south the bible belt for nothing. Personally I wouldn't recommend it. They could do virtual services

Well, let's see the jump in infections after the Easter church parade
