Amid negotiations during a standoff over COVID-19 precautions, the Chicago Teachers Union has proposed remote learning for all students until mid-January. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in response, 'CTU leadership, you’re not listening.”

Members of the Chicago Teachers Union and supporters stage a car caravan protest outside City Hall in the Loop, Wednesday evening, Jan. 5, 2022. Chicago school leaders canceled classes in the nation’s third-largest school district for the second straight day after failing to reach an agreement with the teachers union over remote learning and other COVID-19 safety protocols.

CHICAGO — Closed-door negotiations resumed Saturday to resolve a standoff between Chicago school officials and the city’s teachers union over COVID-19 precautions that canceled three days of classes this week, but the public war-of-words between union leaders and Chicago’s mayor showed little sign of an imminent resolution.

“CTU leadership, you’re not listening,” Lightfoot said. “The best, safest place for kids to be is in school. Students need to be back in person as soon as possible. That’s what parents want. That’s what the science supports. We will not relent.”The blunt response came less than an hour after leaders of the Chicago Teachers Union unveiled their latest proposal to resume remote instruction Wednesday and in-person instruction on Jan. 18.

Having a plan for covid spikes, testing, N95 masks for all and robust, transparent contact tracing & reporting are not unreasonable demands. If Lightfoot had a plan accepted help from the state like the suburbs did, CPS would be open like they are.

I'm so sorry for the low income children without choices, they're doomed.

Look at their demands. They've got things like RENT ABATEMENT written as part of it This is an illegal strike over social activism issues masquerading as health concerns And they're RUINING the education of students to do it. Tell them to either opt out of union or be fired.

Who’s actually in the trenches & knows what’s what in schools? Not some elected politician, that’s for sure.

Require full-dose vaccines and K95 masks for all teachers and students, and risks will diminish exponentially.

Here’s what can settle it all SecCardona - you need to think out of the box FAST. Let there be public remotelearning schools now. And let there be public in school learning. Parents want both. Give them both. This can be done in the matter if days and this battle can end.

Thats only like 1 more week.

Mayor said, 'I guarantee schools are safe'. So...Forcing VACCINATED kids to sit next to UNVACCINATED KIDS And... Forcing MASK WEARERS next to kids whose folks teach them to FIGHT if asked to wear a mask Is your idea of safe?

In case you missed it. The entire talking heads have changed their tune this week. They won't come out and admit it, but they are trying for herd immunity. This is just my opinion, and I don't agree with it😠 God help our healthcare workers and anyone that can't get vaccinated💔

That should say give Nina her money

Is mayor lightfoot paying attention to hospitalizations Increased pediatric numbers Her duty to the citizenry to keep them alive Sick of this - sacrifice your life/kids life attitude from non medical government officials.

Mid January

Brazilian TV presenter Rafael Silva suffers cardiac arrest during live broadcast! On December 28th, the TV presenter proudly showed on social media that he had received the COVID booster!

But Lori's chicagosmayor life isn't on the line, is it? So what agency does she have to dictate to those who are directly in the COVID firing line? What arrogance.

All the trade I have made with with nichelle_90 has been justified and I have made 6 consecutive withdrawal and I recommend her for your trade on bitcoin nichelle_90

Fire them.

A de facto wildcat strike by the teachers union. Pull their automatic dues checkoff privileges and hit them where they breathe.

LMAO to all the parents calling this outrageous. The sense of entitlement is off the charts these days.

Chicago Public Schools cancels Friday classes amid ongoing teachers union standoff, record COVID-19 casesChicago Public Schools canceled Friday classes as a standoff with the teachers union spills into a third day of educational disruption. Meanwhile, we’re messing with these kids lives so adults can play politics… the CTU lost any remaining goodwill during their last strike. to not be working again is on brand but also absolutely absurd. they aren't the only people being asked to work outside their home during the pandemic. kids need to be in school, parents need to be at work, etc. 1/2 What a shit show. Whether or not school should be in session is not the main issue. The utterly incompetent, adversarial management of these decisions by the mayor IS the issue. She’s beyond inept in most dimensions.
