The Serious Eats team kicked off 2021 with a simple goal: to make every page on our site a good one—no matter when it was published. To us, that means any article or recipe you land on should be trustworthy, respectful, and accurate . Given that our archive stretches back more than 15 years, this isn’t a goal we’ll be able to achieve overnight, or even over the course of a single year. In fact, updating our library responsibly is an ongoing project we will be continually engaged in.
Today, though, we’re here to talk about some of our first steps. Over the last few months, our team has been hard at work improving your user experience and making Serious Eats a more pleasant, reliable site to browse and cook from. We’ve revisited and cleaned up a great deal of our library ; redesigned our layout and navigation; and moved into a new content management system with improved capabilities.
TheFoodLab Would love to see you review all the new pizza ovens by Gozney, Alfa etc. They are higher end than Ooni, but look pretty interesting for a backyard (or vented in a big kitchen!)
TheFoodLab Love for you to post on my site.
It's so bad. And did it suddenly get even worse? Today I went on and the layout was so badly organized it looked like a bulletin board. Why is the masthead in the middle of the homepage? I actually opened the site in another browser to see if it was a glitch.
Gah, give us back the print button please.
The loss of the print recipe button is a huge disappointment and kinda ruins it for me
This looks.... terrible. It just look like a bland, random recipe website. :(
Either you broke some links, lost some pages, or purged some articles. Boo...
Are the comments in some old articles removed? I like the new style otherwise
My Eyes! My Eyes! This is so busy looking. So much less sleek than old format. I’m sorry, but I don’t think you’ve improved anything.
I do find the website easier to use. I don't understand why the 'look' had to change unless it's just to signal the change in organization.
Is there a 'latest recipes' section? I noticed there haven't been any new recipes the last month or so.
I'm sorry, but it took me like half an hour figuring out how to print a recipe that didn't look like junk and take 5x too many pages. Print button - simplified recipe needed badly.
I like some of the improvements, like the new search style and lack of the annoying videos, but the design is not as good as the old one
where's the comment section?
So much better - that damn roaming button banished! Layout and navigation much improved. Serious Eats back to being one of my most visited sites again - had become a no-go on my mobile. Thank you so much - pints on me when you visit the UK!
TheFoodLab I'll miss the option to show or hide images in the directions. Ad concentration within the directions seems to have gone way up on mobile as well. Don't generally have an issue with ads but I'm seeing one ad after each step on some recipes.
TheFoodLab Thank you for removing the autoplay videos! Those were a terribly distracting nuisance
just fyi your header overflows on mobile
Omg. I legit thought you got hacked by the ugly design police or something. If this a joke? I Hates it. It looks awful and I can’t find anything. Who ever is in charge fire your staff for LYING TO YOU. It looks awful.
TheFoodLab Thank you, THANK YOU for taking away the autoplay videos!!!
Thank you for removing button that roamed the right side of the page.
Professional web developer & amateuer chef here — looks great!
Oh no, I just now noticed that BraveTart is considered an 'Emeritus' :( I kept wondering where she had gone :( (and am still wondering). Really love her work.
Like the modern, clean look, but agree with others: there seems to be a couple of seconds lag between clicking on a link and something happening
There seem to be some performance/lag issues. Tapping any link seems to take several seconds to respond, at least on my iPhone 12 Pro on a very fast WiFi network. Enough so that at first I thought the links just plain didn’t work.
Looks great! Too many words, tho', especially with the covid pandemic distraction thing. Love you guys!
Nice! Do old links still work?
Sleek, I like it :)
whyyyyyyy. redditors miss the old site already. 😭
