Many Black men and women are keeping tabs on what’s unfolding in the televised trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. They say it has provoked strong emotions.

galvanized protests in cities across the U.S. and the world, as the words “Black Lives Matter” took hold.“I had to mute the TV,” said Lisa Harris, 51, of Redford Township, just west of Detroit. “Hearing Mr. Floyd continue to say he can’t breathe and call for his mother — it was a lot. It’s been a lot to watch.”

Marlene Gillings-Gayle said she had planned not to watch the trial to preserve her peace of mind. But she’s found herself watching almost all of it. She’s had to force herself to go outside and take walks, or risk watching the trial all day and feeling upset. The first week of the trial has included emotional testimonies from several people who witnessed Floyd’s death: The young woman, a teenager at the time, who filmed Floyd’s last moments and told the courtroom she stays “up nights apologizing to George Floyd;” the 61-year-old man who sobbed on the stand, compelling the judge to order a 10-minute recess; the firefighter who begged officers to let her check Floyd’s pulse as he gasped for air, saying, “I was desperate to help.

The trial is only furthering the uneasiness many felt when the video of Chauvin pressing his knee to Floyd’s neck started to circulate online. “You catch a murder on camera and you’re going to explain away to me that this man died of a heart attack?” Smith said of Floyd. “All this does is reaffirm the hatred and entrenchment of white supremacy and white domination over communities of color.”

Funny, I can't watch it because I'm at WORK

George Floyd cannot continue to lead a double life of drugs and con. He got so used to getting away with it. . For so long the community he conned tolerated his life choices. But as anything, there is an ending. May those whose lives were affected be able to let go and move on.

Little by little, directly & indirectly, George Floyd's identity is being revealed to the public. He aint a hero. He aint a saint. His decision is what caused all the ruins in the life of so many people. Hopefully, the black community would understand the wrong he has caused.

I often wonder why people are emotionally connected to someone else just because of their skin color. I’m my book, if you’re a pos then I have zero care.

They do realize there is the option not to watch it, right? It's kind of like they are provoking these strong emotions themselves.

R.I.P BROTHER HEAVEN YOUR HOME NOW YOUR FAMILY AND ALL WILL BE WITH YOU AGAIN ❤ AT FATHER GODS TIME

It's going to turn out bad and ugly no matter what the verdict is.

Not me

It’s the AP, what do you expect?

It’s provoked every races emotion. The fuck you talking about. ?

The headline here is a disservice to the article; the concern of certain readers, and perhaps persons named therein. That's an honest reaction.

fukemallslowly seissupdivoc

Um all people are watching, this white mother of a biracial son is paying close attention. Especially since we live in PNW

it is hard to watch. but to be fair, the left-leaning media is really twisting the knife in here and they should know that theyre only causing pain to their most loyal viewers/readers. its a real problem.

Way to propagate the race divide. 👎👎

That the cop was a good man and George Floyd was a drug addicted loser?

I can't imagine what Black people are feeling and going through. George Floyd's life mattered, justice must be served.

As a white man, I find it emotionally taxing. I can’t even begin to understand the feelings black Americans have with this. If he isn’t found guilty, I’ll support any action that African Americans decide to take.

Let them answer for the Knoxville Horror, and many more like it. Murdering whites day in and day out with a media that turns away and says nothing. Sympathy? Don't make me laugh.

I think everyone is especially since BLM will be rioting

Then stop watching

Watching a black man lynched on video will do that

Now we understand how emotional appeal can trigger the black community. No wonder the lawyer of Floyd uses intense emotions in his speech. Look at Floyd's brother now. He looks like a big shot. Thanks to the $27 million awarded his family.

It's noticeable that black people's emotions can be easily triggered. They cry easily and a lot. Personalizing the situation. What if it were my brother? My father? What if? Let us see if reasons will prevail.

calm the F down, nothing in that trial is going to change your life or anything in your life. Just go to school, go to work, pay your mortgage. No shoplifting, fighting, staying out too late or doing drugs. If everyone just does that, we will be a lifetime ahead.

Many white folks are watching and expecting justice too!

Millions of people are horrified and emotional about this unforgivable death and the disingenuous attempt to defend the killer. All races, all creeds, all political parties. DO BETTER !!

That horrific yet truthfully vivid video sparked 'The' Movement 2.0 Yeah, its a lot emotional.

Whatever happens. Please don't riot.

This also provokes strong emotions: This the face of hate.

This is insane gutter journalism

Every colour of proof care about what is going on in the courtroom

It’s quite simple, don’t be a criminal, live a crime free life, follow the instructions of police when told to comply, fight your fights in a courtroom, if you’re concerned record your interaction with police. Most cops are doing well, you’ll likely find the bad ones yapping off.

The raging anger is on standby, witnessed by millions, the outcome better be on the right side of justice.

Never heard of anyone living for 9 minutes while being choked maybe a minute or two it was the lethal amount of fentanyl that blew up his heart not the officer doing his duty

It has provoked strong emotions in decent white men and women too. Cold-blooded murder does that to you.

Your headlines are crap and continue to imprint the 'other' narrative ... implicit message is it's okay for me not to be traumatized by murder if not 'my tribe' ... how can you reframe? JusticeForGeorgeFloyd

The killer cops are usually acquitted. That fact makes everyone 😬

Tangentially on D. Chauvin...

Why does the press believe black people are a group that thinks the same and feels the same. Surely they are all as individualistic as their white and Asian fellow citizens and should be treated accordingly?

I wish US would stop exporting it's racism to Europe which was way ahead of the Equality in law of USA Segregation was Apartheid in USA . Let's call it was it was

idc what happens to chauvin but anyone who robs a pregnant woman at gunpoint deserves to die

I think it’s safe to say many people of varying skins tones are keeping tabs on what’s unfolding 🙄

Yeah, the realization that the media has been misrepresenting this case to cause an outrage for months is a lot to take in.

🙋🏻‍♀️ white woman here with PTSD from watching Mr. Floyd murdered over and over and over again. This is just so horrific.

ya so are white people. it's tough to watch for both of us, emotions and sympathy run beyond color

I’m sure emotions are strong. Joe can they not be? I hope it evokes SOME emotion as well with white people, who have studiously avoiding any empathy with their long suffering fellow Americans.

Have any of them considered that Mr. Floyd would be among the living if he had given up drugs and petty crime?
