Charlottesville city leaders unanimously vote to take down Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson statues nearly four years after white supremacists protested calls for removal.

Controversial statues are being removed amid worldwide civil rights protests, but there is some disagreement about what to do with them.Nearly four years after white supremacists marched through Charlottesville, Virginia, protesting a proposal to take down a Confederate statue, city leaders have unanimously voted to remove the Robert E. Lee monument -- and another.

In a statement released after the vote, the council said the statues' pending removal is"a major step forward toward telling a more complete history of our community.""We look forward to transforming our downtown parks by removing these racist symbols of Charlottesville’s past.

Not everyone that protested their removal was a white supremacist. Some were antiMaoists.

I always thought we should just cut the people off and have dozens of excellent horse statues
