New York plans to implement a congestion charge for drivers on certain streets in Manhattan. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and other U.S. cities are considering it, too.

In 2003, London started charging drivers a fee to drive on the city center’s narrow streets. In the years since, studies have documented reduced traffic congestion, better bus service, fewer accidents and an improved overall quality of life.

Jonathan Leape, a professor at the London School of Economics, has called the system “a triumph of economics.”south of 60th Street in Manhattan. San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and other U.S. cities are considering it. Economists have been promoting congestion charges for years, said Matthew Turner, an economist at Brown University, especially now that the widespread adoption of transponders and GPS systems has removed some of the technological obstacles.

“The technology has gotten better and we’ve gotten more experienced with it, so now it’s a pretty natural thing to do,” Mr. Turner said.

Emulating Singapore style!

Manhattan/NYC Port Authority already charges bridge/tunnel tolls into city similar in pricing to the tunes of London Congestion/Emission Tax. It will be interesting to see the Tax Creativity boom in post COVID world by the authorities to balance the unbalanced sheets.

Or they can continue to let the city deteriorate. More violence, more homeless crappy schools and higher taxes. Then there will be no congestion.

I’m fine with paying a little extra to cover the cost of building a NEW piece of infrastructure that saves me time (new bridge, bypass, etc.) until it’s paid off. But to charge me for an EXISTING road? Never! 😠

Afghanistan's top high school graduate fears for her futureSalgy Baran got the highest score in all of Afghanistan on her university entrance exams this year, but she has no answers for what comes next. The 18-year-old wants to stay and become a doctor, but as with so many other Afghans, those plans were plunged into doubt when the Taliban rolled into the capital of Kabul earlier this month, capping their stunning takeover of the country. Taliban leaders say women and girls will be able to attend school and work in accordance with Islamic law — without providing specifics — even as other prominent members of the militant group have sneered at the idea of coed classrooms and hinted at more reactionary measures. I’m America r kids can’t get an education bc it destroys their financial futures! So, we all have the same fears. The truth is that rich ppl are running this world and all people who aren’t rich will suffer one way or another even though it was the poor who made these ppl rich. Fight for your rights! Do not indulge in fears and self-pity. 13 dead Americans and ur still bangin on about muh feminism. There is going to be justice for this mendacity that's all there is to it. No one gets away with this bald face treason.
