Amateur winemakers group was eager for its new president to start. Now, it tries to cope with his loss.

But as some of his winemaking colleagues would express over the past week, he has been an integral part since he came aboard. That interest and dedication was about to culminate Jan. 1 with his new role as president of the amateur winemakers organization.

“Chris was determined to invigorate members to further fulfill the group’s mission,” said Don and Joan Hopler, of Carlisle. “Chris was really looking forward to being president. He was soliciting thoughts and ideas from members months before he was to take the position. He would have been an awesome president.”

“Chris loved life,” said Jim Compton, of Monroe Township, another Guild member. “He was a friend willing to help anyone.” Still, when his friends talked about his contribution to the guild, it was as much for his dedication and infectious laugh as it was filling a bottle with the juice from a grape. “I always thought of Chris as sort of the heart and soul of the organization, in the background and not seeking the limelight, but always looking out for the good of the organization,” Cook said.
