NEW: Any mask is better than no mask. But loosely woven cloth masks provide the least amount of protection and Americans in some cases might want to opt for higher quality masks like KN95 and N95 respirators, the CDC wrote in updated online guidance.

Loosely woven cloth masks provide the least amount of protection from COVID, with KN95 and N95 respirators providing more protection, according to new CDC guidance.

But with much of the public reluctant to wear a mask at all, the CDC recommendation stops short of calling on Americans to choose one mask over the other, maintaining that any mask is better than no mask. The CDC also argues that higher quality masks can be less comfortable, and if a person takes it off, they are left with no protection.

"What I will say is the best mask that you can wear is the one that you will wear and the one you can keep on all day long that you can tolerate in public indoor settings and tolerate where you need to wear it," Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC director, told reporters this week.

Least = zero…been known for 2 years now by people with common sense. All non-airtight masks do not stop an airborne microscopic virus. Trump. Made ? Who certifies them in USA? Covid-19 BS LIES. Coronavirus (common Flu & Cold) Virus. They all know this. Now we get this messaging…STOP allowing the news media to dictate the dialogue with their hind sight 20-20 manipulative If the virus is NOT as threatening as the prior one/ you’re vaccinated, why not wear the mask we’ve all been wearing/social distance

Stop the bullshit. There is no COVID-19 and no one died of it. It’s a game used for political purposes to destroy America by democrats in the name of the democracy. How about scuba gear. At least it has a purpose. Why now...looking for profits? We have known that for some time. Genius! Why didn't anybody else think of that! 🙄

The CDC said get the vax. It's your only protection from spreading covid. The CDC also just said healthcare care workers can work even if they have covid. It's gotten this stupud

Biden to double free COVID tests, make N95 masks available in fight against omicronPresident Joe Biden says the government plans to double to 1 billion the rapid, at-home COVID-19 tests to be distributed free to Americans. Everyone’s going to have a test just in time for when they don’t want/need them anymore.

You're all gonna owe everyone a huge apology some day... That day will come.. Idiocracy O mejor aún, dejarse de payasadas y hacer su vida tranquilamente. lmao not accurate. no mask gives you the ability to breathe in smaller particles for your body to learn how to increase NATURAL IMMUNITY. ffs. No shit.

THIS WOMAN AND HER LIL DR FAUCI HAS SPOOKED AMERICANS INTO Psychotic therapeutic nonsense seeing this saying that don’t know what they saying Americans is waiting for a new virus 🦠 CALLED THE “CLINTON2024 “ that virus has dangerous strains 🥺😩😩😩 if you don't wear a N95, so be it. The CDC didn't ask people to wear masks in the first break of Covid, until now they are suggesting people should wear a kN95 mask now.

which mask makes it less likely that I’ll have to smell my own breath all day? No I Expect that I will be standing in line in three months time for my fourth booster jab and six months later my fifth this is because there are so many non-vaxed people out there unfortunately and oh yes I have my flu shot

Razer's N95 debacle is a reminder to double check COVID claimsThe Razer mask is a lesson in sniffing out misleading COVID marketing Kaname Tosen last resurrection This looks like two Alexas glued to a mouth guard.

Fire this woman! Omicron cases rarely end up in the hospital. Of the omicron cases that end up in the hospital, none have been on vents and most are discharged 48hrs or less. The same as the common cold which is either rhinovirus or coronavirus. (Look it up)! N95s are expensive, so I only wear them when in hospitals/crowded indoor setting. Mostly, I just double layer KN95/KF94 with surgical mask or cloth mask on top. I look forward to the day I can wear just pretty cloth masks as part of my normal wardrobe, and not bc of a virus.

Of course the tighter the fabric weave the better to keep droplets and the aerosol effect out, that's only common sense. Um no. Ditch the mask as the science data tells us. Ineffective and does not kill the virus. 🤦‍♂️ After TWO YEARS? That’s a pathetic commentary on “science”. It’s YellowJournalism for not calling that out.

Friday evening after market hours news dump, which everyone knows is when you dump news you don’t want people to see. Why hide this? Is this just a big coincidence or CDCDirector idea? nope I’m good thanks And FYI these masks has holes in them for the virus to get through so they want you to get sick with covid wake up people your dealing with tyranny

So basically what people have been saying for almost two years.

Fact check: Right-wing figures falsely describe CDC director's comments about Covid-19 deathsProminent right-wing figures have been falsely describing a comment the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made last week about Covid-19 deaths -- taking Dr. Rochelle Walensky out of context to wrongly claim she had delivered a dramatic new admission about the 840,000-plus Americans who have died of the virus. Thank God the CDC put this out I wear my designer mask. I don't like those surgical masks bc you have to keep throwing them away. whereas a designer mask you can keep using it. I just air mines out after I'm done or wash it. it's convenient. Actually no matter what mask you use they don’t work. They slowly kill you like CO2 poisoning. But keep using them.

I've noticed KN95s prices have more than double on amazon Is this too loose? And who is going to be pain for all these masks? It's up to you to protect yourself in the ways that we told you specifically not to do earlier! Go Brady Go

CDC COVID-19 guidance to become optional for cruise linesThe guidelines covered several COVID-19 safety measures on ships. Very interested in who would cruise at this time. I think of all the norovirus outbreaks on ships, and wonder why people would put themselves in the same environment in the midst of COVID.

CDC COVID guidance for cruise ships to be optional starting SaturdayTwo weeks ago, the CDC issued a warning to avoid cruise travel regardless of vaccination status. Oof. 😓 Lololol, I'm sorry, but what CDCgov do you understand the name of your agency? Supreme Court or what

"Next week we'll announce how we're making high-quality masks available to the American people for free," Biden said. MORE: COVID-19 live updates: Hospitalizations and pediatric hospitalizations at all-time highs In its earlier guidance, the CDC urged Americans not to purchase surgical N95 masks so as to save them for health care workers. However, it noted that"basic disposable" respirators can be an option so long as supplies are available. While this latest guidance stops short of calling on people to wear a certain type of mask, it includes more information about why a person might opt for a nonsurgical N95 or a KN95. It also suggests wearing a disposable surgical mask with a cloth mask over it to improve the fit. "Some masks and respirators offer higher levels of protection than others, and some may be harder to tolerate or wear consistently than others," the CDC stated in the updated guidance."It is most important to wear a well-fitted mask or respirator correctly that is comfortable for you and that provides good protection."
