The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has turned down President Joe Biden's request for a new scaled-down pandemic-related moratorium on residential evictions, citing a lack of legal authority to take the action, the White House said on Monday.

The previous moratorium, which protected millions of Americans behind on their rent from being tossed out of houses and apartments, expired at midnight on Saturday, with Congress failing to renew it as Biden had asked. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier on Monday pressed Biden to have his administration renew the ban without congressional action.

A Supreme Court opinion last month indicated that legislative approval would be required to impose a new moratorium.Biden also called on states and localities to extend or put in place eviction bans for at the least the next two months, Psaki said. The White House said among those behind on their rent, a third live in states that have extended their own protections against evictions.

In a letter to fellow House Democrats, Pelosi urged Biden's administration to renew the moratorium without congressional action. Pelosi told lawmakers such an extension would provide more time to speed distribution of $46.5 billion already allocated by Congress for rental relief. Only about $3 billion of that sum has been distributed.

More than 15 million people in 6.5 million U.S. households are currently behind on rental payments, according to a study by the Aspen Institute and the COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project, collectively owing more than $20 billion to landlords.

U.S. CDC chief says there will be no federal mandate on COVID-19 vaccineU.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on Friday there will be no nationwide mandate for Americans to get a COVID-19 vaccine, clarifying comments she made earlier during a televised interview. Putting aside that the Constitution does not grant any such power to order vaccinations. And putting aside that we may be under the illusion that the death rate was abating because many have acquired immunity. Notice how fast deaths dropped in 1919: She's a comedian🤡, Biden's comedian, not Trump's. If they send thousands of infected illegal aliens to all the cities in the nation what good is it going to do us If they re infect everyone So they can keep this mandate going till 2024 So they can steal another election😷😳🤔

Biden ignores Pelosi's call to extend eviction ban despite Kavanaugh opinionPresident Biden and the White House as of Monday morning didn't respond to a statment from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her leadership team calling on the executive branch to extend the federal eviction moratorium. I don’t see how the chief executive would have power to extend a housing moratorium when the finances to accommodate owners is coming from the government. Finances shall be handled by the legislator man. If the ban continues, is there any help for the landlords potentially losing their property?
