RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A grieving family is pleading with parents to monitor their children's online activity after a former Virginia police officer"catfished" a 15-year-old girl online and then traveled to her Riverside, California, home, where he allegedly killed her mother and grandparents.

"Catfishing led to the deaths of the three most important people in my life: my dad, my mom and my sister," she said through tears."Tell our story to help your parenting. Not out of fear, but out of example of something that did happen." Three relatives were found dead in the house from apparent homicides: 69-year-old Mark Winek; his wife, 65-year-old Sharie Winek; and their daughter, 38-year-old Brooke Winek. The relatives were found with their hands bound behind their backs with duct tape, Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez told ABC News."It could be either suffocation or maybe some smoke inhalation ... but it’s really too early to tell until the coroner comes out with that," the chief said.

Brooke Winek was a"loving single mom who did her best to raise her two teenage daughters in a loving way," she said.
