, it’s clear that “WAP” has made its mark. But Cardi was “really surprised” by the latter reaction, though she always knew the song “was gonna have a big impact, I guess, because of me and Megan.” After all, they’re two of the biggest rappers and music artists in the world right now. Even so, Cardi stressed, “I didn’t know it was going to be so controversial.”
“I never expected that, you know, conservatives and Republicans were going to be talking about the song,” she said. “I didn’t think the song was as vulgar as they said it was, you know?” As she explained, talking openly about female sexuality shouldn’t be such a big deal. “I always encourage people to be confident, especially when it comes to your sexuality,” she added.
But she’s not letting the haters get her down — to the contrary, she’s looking at the upside to the controversy, otherwise known as the music charts. “It doesn’t make me angry, it makes me happy,” she said. “They keep talking and the numbers keep going up. At the end of the day, whatever they’re saying, the numbers speak for themselves.”
