Big questions remain about any potential coronavirus immunity — particularly whether those who have been infected and have antibodies are protected from reinfection and for how long.

Studies have shown that coronavirus patients do produce antibodies, which are protective proteins the immune system produces in response to infections. But it's not yet known whether antibodies confer any kind of long-term immunity to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.examined 37 patients who were asymptomatic and 37 people who had symptoms. It found that both groups developed coronavirus antibodies but that they were relatively short-lived.

Yet if antibodies do fade quickly, Kuritzkes said, it's possible that people could become reinfected, although it's still too early to know and there's not enough data yet. Two types of T cells, in particular, are designed to recognize and attack pathogens. The first, known as T helper cells, are crucial for regulating antibody responses. The other, known as cytotoxic T cells, or T killer cells, are sophisticated killers.

In other words, even if a patient's antibody levels wane over time, the adaptive immune system has ways to pick up the slack.

The bigger question is such a willfully ignorant Nation such as the US will understand or even care. Thus far a large of Americans have clearly shown they don't care. Don't care about elderly, disabled, immunocompromised even their own families. But they're proud of not caring

I will ponder those questions at the beach later this morning. Then I will have a drink.

There is so much redundancy in this article, to state an opinion as though it were scientific evidence is dangerous. Shame on you.

This isn’t passing the sniff test the virus has been around for over 6 months if there wasn’t some sort of immunity that would have been all over the liberal media storyline.

The abundance of coronaviruses and their genetic makeup differ from others in the speed of spread and the risk in harm to humans, and there is no antagonist that limits their severity.

Fear porn.

If it’s like any other coronavirus immunity should last for around a year

❤❤❤❤

Test it on the president.

Ya'll wait Oct-Dec then Mar 2021, they're gonna be crying that the maternity & nurseries are at capacity because they can't get their shit together. Population control my ass

REAL NEWS

STAY AWAY FROM CUOMO HE IS A KILLER

I hope it lasts longer than 90 days. I can’t imagine my partner going thru that again. I must have been asymptomatic but neither of us were able to be tested. He got it in early March when you cldn’t get a test

So...if there are still serious questions...what does that mean for so called 'herd immunity'? If antibodies possibly don't give much protection...what's that mean? Will people get it over and over? Could other countries be in for another hit? F***ing COVIDー19 🤦🏾‍♀️ nbc msnbc

The wicked witch's name is vitamin D, and boy! is she pissed...

I suspect that COVIDー19 will behave like Influenza and the common cold over time. Humans will acquire immunity over the years and it will not be as fatal to 80 year olds in 2050 as it is to them in 2020. Seasonal vaccines, etc. We'll see. Our immune systems have beaten worse

If scientists are hoping so then what does that say about about vaccines

Donno ya'll going 'round spreading that fear the antibodies only live for 90 days in our system.
