'I just felt like it was the best place for me overall,' said Caleb Williams, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 class, on his decision to play football at Oklahoma.

That success continues to pay off on the recruiting trail and it did in a big way Saturday when Caleb Williams, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 class and the No. 4 overall player in the class, committed to the Sooners.Williams made his announcement on CBS Sports HQ.

"I just felt like it was the best place for me overall," Williams said on the stream."I've got a year here but I'm ready to go gain the trust of my teammates, earn the starting spot and hopefully bring them a national championship."

Williams said the success of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts helped convince him to commit to Riley and the Sooners.The way Riley was able to take advantage of each quarterback's strengths and weaknesses despite wildly different skill sets played a big part, Williams said.

Williams (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) chose OU over Maryland and LSU.Williams threw the downward Horns as his finished his announcement.The dual-threat quarterback is from Washington, D.C., who attended Gonzaga.Williams is the second top-ranked 2021 quarterback to commit to the Sooners. Brock Vandagriff, a Georgia product, committed to the Sooners last June but decommitted on New Year’s. Vandagriff was the No. 1 player in the 2021 class at the time of his commitment and committed to Georgia a few weeks after his decommitment from OU.

While Vandagriff was more of a pro-style quarterback, Williams is a dual-threat, with the speed and elusiveness to make plays happen with his feet in addition to an accurate and powerful delivery both in the pocket and on the run. Read more: USA TODAY »
