Most of the time, it’s fairly easy to predict which single will own the Hot 100 the following week. Sometimes there’s a race between two tracks, and it’s still not common for several tunes to compete for the highest rung on the most competitive ranking of songs in the U.S.
BTS is currently in charge of the Hot 100 for a fifth consecutive week with their latest single “Butter,” which has thus far been unbeatable...but how long will that winning streak continue? “Butter” is gaining ground on unimportant radio lists as more and more stations put it into rotation and Americans become familiar with the title, and it has been a sales monster from the moment it arrived.
“Butter” has now sold more than 100,000 copies in each of its first five weeks of availability. To put that sum into perspective, no other track has managed to accrue a six-digit sales figure at any point in 2021. If the summer tune can keep selling well, it may be able to best large streaming and radio data attached to other songs, and it could continue to rule.
