UK seeks to attract high-skilled workers with points-based immigration system

LONDON - Britain will prioritise access for high-skilled workers from around the world in its post-Brexit points-based immigration system, the government said on Tuesday, setting out its plans to put an end to a reliance on “cheap labour from Europe”.

Concern over the impact of high levels of immigration from the European Union was one of the key drivers behind Britain’s 2016 vote to leave the bloc and the government has said it plans to bring overall migration numbers down. “We have got a number of routes through the points-based immigration scheme that will enable people to come here with the right kind of skills that can support our country and our economy,” interior minister Priti Patel said.

Skilled workers will need to meet criteria including specific skills and the ability to speak English, the government said, and those applying will need to have a job offer.

LOL, what high skilled workers would even consider moving to bigoted Brexit Britain?

I wonder how many points superforecasters will attract under Patel's scheme? 🤔

...look elsewhere, UK is returning to a small town, farmers, rural foundation......their self-destruction is heart-wrenching, but ...self inflicted....

Good thinking. At least someone is on the ball!

....migration is higher from outside the EU. All this talk about workers from the EU taking jobs by accepting lower salaries is nonsense, the employers should not be paying less than the NationalMinimumWage. ToryBrexit 2/2

The UK, just like the US, has evolved from being a country to corporation. The only thing that seems to matter is cheap labour so that business bosses and their henchmen can rake in the billions and the hell with culture, social cohesion and the well being of their people.

I hate to break it to the British public but a points based immigration has been in place in the UK for about 12 yrs. Within that the applicants have to have to be able to converse in English. Part of the application process has been to undertake an English test. Net.... 1/2

First sign of freedom from the Masonic Globalist Judeo-Marxist European Union ?

That’s not the news. High skilled workers could and always come to the uk. The news is that the hostile environment will get stronger and low skilled workers will not be welcomed (even though there’s a massive lack of low skilled workers in the country)

Shouldn’t they get rid of all the bad apples first? Starting with the Mayor of London.

Anyone with half a brain knows to avoid Dads Army England these days. Scotland however has open, welcome arms for all🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺

Are the soft fruits etc going to be left to rot as no one to pick them or are they going to become very expensive as the pickers have to be paid over £25k ?

British can do what they want. The fact is that European migrants already are ditching UK and moving back to continent. I believe that EU countries are going to set exactly the same standards for British migrants.

Great deal

You forgot the most controversial element of the proposal; English speaking immigrants are the only people who will be allowed to enter the UK under the new proposed plan.
