Brandon Lee's former fiancée calls Alec Baldwin film set shooting an 'avoidable tragedy'

Brandon Lee's former fiancée Eliza Hutton believes the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Alec Baldwin 's new film Rust was an 'avoidable tragedy'. Brandon died in 1993 after being shot on the set of The Crow

Eliza Hutton was engaged to the late actor, who passed away when he was killed on the set of film The Crow in 1993. Following the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna on the set of Alec Baldwin 's latest movie Rust, Eliza is calling for filmmakers to use alternatives to real guns.

Brandon - who was the son of martial arts star Bruce Lee - died at the age of 28 when he was shot by a gun on the set of his movie. It was supposed to have fired a blank but a bullet was later discovered near his spine in a post-mortem. Eliza told People magazine: "Twenty eight years ago, I was shattered by the shock and grief of losing the love of my life, Brandon Lee, so senselessly.

"My heart aches again now for Halyna Hutchins’ husband and son, and for all those left in the wake of this avoidable tragedy.""I urge those in positions to make change to consider alternatives to real guns on sets," she added.Brandon's sister Shannon has also spoken out about the tragedy, adding on Twitter : "Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on Rust. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period."

Alec Baldwin is said to be taking some time off in the wake of the incident."This was pretty devastating. This is how he handles difficult times. Whenever something bad happens, in the short term, he removes himself from the public eye," the source explained to People magazine.

"Alec is someone who really deeply cares, so he can be very hard on himself. That’s true in general, in situations nowhere near as serious as this. But in this situation, it’s a whole other level because of the loss of life involved." They added: "It’s going to take him some time to figure this all out. He needs to take a while to himself, to be with his family."

Filming on the movie has been paused indefinitely following Halyna's death. In a statement, the production company said: "The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by the tragedy and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones.

"We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Departments investigation." Read More Read more: Mirror Celeb »

Having real weapons on set is invaluable to ensure realism. Rubber weapons don't do it in all cases. 🔫😳 As a gun owner, I agree with Ernie's rationale for saying so. The 'good' prop gun replicas look and feel like the real thing.

Yahoo I watch a lot of old movies. Hard to believe, but exciting drama scripts can be written that don't involve any firearms at all! Relying on gunplay for plot resolution = laziness & lack of imagination.

And if they accidentally shoot someone they should go to prison just like any other Joe citizen.
