The success of Scream represents some positive news for the bruised cinema industry, considering that its success comes amid a spike in COVID-19

,” a reimagining of a horror franchise that once appeared to have run out of steam, dominated the box office this weekend, earning a scary good $30.6 million.

“They re-invigorated the franchise for pre-existing fans and introduced it to new generation of fans,” says Chris Aronson, Paramount’s domestic distribution chief. “We’ve heard anecdotally that people have seen the film more than once or are planning to see it multiple times.” “It shows how different age groups are responding to omicron when it comes to out of the home activities,” says Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “Movies aimed at more mature audiences aren’t doing as well, but for younger moviegoers it seems the pandemic isn’t resonating in a negative way in terms of going to cinemas.

This would have done pretty well on Netflix.

This movie was perfect for a streaming service. I took as example Red Notice, even with The Rock, Ryan and Galdot that was BAD and would bomb on theaters but instead Netflix ordered 2 sequels for the success. The same with The Old Guard.

This movie is good and funny. I enjoy it

Variety needs to stop using words like “disastrous” & “bomb” and turn to “disappointing” & “below expectations”.Dooming movies after opening week doesn’t help the industry or encourage people to take a chance on a film. We have real disasters in our world, and they aren’t movies.

The media is so mean to woman. Shame on that tltle.

treforlevins007 ouch

I saw the movie. Dont think it was bad but also not outstanding. Should have been a Netflix or Amazon movie instead

It was very generic, up until the heavy handed feminism in the last scene which left a bad taste in my mouth. Diane Kruger, Lupita and Penelope Cruz were the standouts.

I wanted to see this but im not going to movie theaters right now. Pandemic

The reason these movies are flopping is because you want women to flock to a forced female empowerment movie. Men already degrade women every step of the way and this isn't helping.

Well, it is what it is. Women are not badass enough without superpowers. Sad but True

omg

audiences are really lining up to see all female action movies🤣🤣

Stellar cast had me interested, but the trailer itself was a huge no for me

“The 356” 😭😂

This movie always looked like it sucked

😱 Scream

Yeah, why the hell does Disney have big budgets.... Like luca and encanto and their animated films are ridiculously over budgeted.. 150m for luca and encanto.... Its no wonder people and studios are loosing money, when they spend like 200m for a 90-120 minute movie...

I'm not sure it's a 'positive' that the film industry is pushing for theater attendance just as the US sees more covid hospitalizations than at any previous point in the pandemic.
