DUBAI—Boeing Co. received 50 orders for its grounded 737 MAX, a boost for the embattled plane maker as it continues to deal with the fallout from two fatal crashes involving the jet.

Kazakhstan’s Air Astana, which is a customer of the rival Airbus SE A320neo, said in a letter of intent Tuesday it would buy 30 MAX jets, marking a miniature coup for Boeing. The commitment is valued at $3.6 billion.
