A court official in Alabama on Friday ordered the public release of bodycam footage that shows a former Huntsville police officer fatally shooting a suicidal man in 2018.

The footage shows the April 2018 incident when police officer William Ben Darby fatally shot Jeffery Parker. Earlier that day, Parker called the police and said that he wanted to take his own life.However, Weinberg wrote onThe City of Huntsville objected to Pate's order to release the footage, arguing that body cam video is a non-public law enforcement record, and therefore its release doesn't comply with Alabama's Open Records Act, News 19 reported.
