President-elect Joe Biden Tuesday participated in a memorial for those who have died from Covid-19 at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, declaring, “To heal, we must remember.”
Joined by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Mr. Biden said, “Between sundown and dusk, let us shine the light in the darkness along the sacred pool of reflection and remember all we lost.” He then looked out on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, facing the Washington Monument in the distance, as 400 lights were lit in memory of the dead.
The event, which marked Mr. Biden’s first stop in Washington after arriving in the city earlier Tuesday, took place as the U.S. surpassed“For many months, we have grieved by ourselves,” Ms. Harris said. “Tonight, we grieve and begin healing together.”
