Following through on one of President Biden’s key campaign promises, the Department of Homeland Security just announced it will pause most deportations for the next 100 days.
The deportation moratorium, as Mr. Biden called it, will begin on Friday. It will include most immigrants in the country without legal authorization, except those who crossed the border after Nov. 1, 2020 and those who have committed an "aggravated felony" or who pose a national security risk. The administration said the pause will allow immigration leaders to reassess their deportation policy to concentrate limited resources on the most pressing threats.
“The pause will allow DHS to ensure that its resources are dedicated to responding to the most pressing challenges that the United States faces, including immediate operational challenges at the southwest border,” DHS said in an unsigned statement. Earlier in the evening, Mr. Biden signed a separate order rescinding a Trump administration policy making all immigrants in the country illegally targets for deportation.

The law is the law. Deport anyone who doesn’t have the legal right to stay in the country. Any other country will do that.
