During his 2016 presidential campaign, Sanders proposed to make college tuition-free and debt-free. In 2016, he introduced legislation - the College For All Act - that would make public colleges tuition-free for students.Four-year public colleges and community colleges should be free - including tuition and fees - for everyone.
Sanders will fund his student loan forgiveness plan through a new tax on financial transactions, which he expects could raise more than $2 trillion over the next 10 years. The tax plan will include a 0.5% fee on all stock trades, a 0.1% fee on all bond trades and a 0.005% fee on all derivatives trades.
Streamline the student loan debt forgiveness process using data and income information already available to the federal government.

This would put more people into bankruptcy than ever. Forgiven debt is income in the eyes of the IRS. Say you’re a teacher making $45k per year. You get $80k cancelled. Your income goes to $125k and suddenly your stuck with a tax bill of $30k+. How you gonna pay? Another loan?

This makes sense. After decades of the government-subsidized profiteering of the student loan industry, why cap debt cancellation at $50k? I'd be fine with a means test, but when you're scraping by just to survive, a 7% loan DOUBLES every 10 years. 20 years? 4x the original loan.
Said another way: I will steal money (in the name of taxes) from all my non - voters, to give to you my voters, so that you don't have to repay the money you borrowed

Student debt can be fixed. Remove student debt from the FICO score and they can pay down their debt and it won't affect them. Government-supported programs should not be on the credit system. The credit system is a private capital system that should not interfere with government
