SAN DIEGO – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County moved to within 2.1 cents of the record high Tuesday, increasing 3.9 cents to $5.997.
The average price has risen 14 of the past 15 days, increasing 21.8 cents, including nine-tenths of a cent Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 14.9 cents more than one week ago, 22.9 cents higher than one month ago and $1.843 greater than one year ago.The national average price rose 4 cents to $4.523, erasing the previous record set Monday.
The rising pump prices are the result of the high cost of oil, according to Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager. The price of a barrel of July Brent crude on ICE Futures Europe rose for the third time in four sessions, increasing $2.69 to settle at $114.24.Crude oil costs account for slightly more than half of the pump price, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
California Democrats have repeatedly shot down Republican Assemblyman Kevin Kiley’s proposal to suspend the statewide gas tax, despite record high prices. Instead, they supported a plan to distribute debit cards to California residents and vehicle owners, which were supposed to arrive in July, but now looks like that was very optimistic.— Kevin Kiley
KevinKileyCA $100 BILLION surplus. I think we can afford to suspend the gas tax. If gas prices don't immediately drop then that's proof of price gauging and grounds to seek legal action against gas companies .
KevinKileyCA Many gas prices also approaching 6.25 and 6.50 at other gas companies .
KevinKileyCA People are prepared to pay $5.997 for gas. That's what the oil companies will charge. Reducing the tax will just give them more profit. That's why the rebate is a better way of helping.
KevinKileyCA It's ok just ignore it, nothing is going to change that will be in the consumers favor.
KevinKileyCA R’s just block a bill to cap gas prices. QUSI is bad for SanDiego. Republicans are bad for America
KevinKileyCA Reminder to all of us who voted for DEM. Good Job.
KevinKileyCA 1) Oil companies are getting record profits and still RAISING prices. This is profiteering. 2) There is NO guarantee that oil companies would lower prices if the tax was cut. What makes you think they wouldn't just pocket the additional profits? KUSINewsPropaganda
KevinKileyCA Why do you guys keep rubbing it in our faces ? You don’t think we know this ?
