According to a newly released report, Avatar: The Way of Water's current box office has surpassed the threshold to be considered successful, guaranteeing further sequels beyond Avatar 3 being greenlit. The long-awaited sequel to James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi spectacle sees the director reunite with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and Steven Lang.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY According to Matthew Belloni of Puck News, Avatar: The Way of Water's continued success at the box office has guaranteed the theatrical future of the franchise. The film has reportedly surpassed the $1.4 billion box-office earnings threshold required for it to be considered successful by the Walt Disney Company. Cameron previously claimed that the film would need to make $2 billion would to do so.
While Avatar 3 would follow on from Avatar: The Way of Water by exploring a more aggressive Na'vi society centered around fire, producer John Landau has teased that the Avatar franchise will eventually travel to Earth in the fifth film. While Pandora will be further explored, Landau teased that the Na'vi would travel to the dying Earth, giving Neytiri a challenging new perspective on humanity removed from the colonial RDA forces that have long plagued her world.
With Cameron emphasizing the Avatar franchise's episodic nature in recent interviews, audiences are sure to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that it is likely that the director will be able to tell his full story.
Hollywood accounting is a clown show.
LETS GOOOOOO
Avatar era let's goooo! I need them all. AVATARTheWayofWater
Avatar 3 is already filmed! Does this 1.4b covers for that too? That means avatar 3 will be a profit from the first dollar it earns?
How? Who is watching this? I’ve literally heard no one talking about it and if what they say is true in that this needs to be the fourth highest grossing film to break even, then they aren’t even close to that
Good to hear!
So much fake news. Google search shows it cost $250 MILLION to make. They made profits long time ago
This movie royally sucks.
Boring
I’d not jump too far ahead if I was them. I think part of the reception for Way of the Water is the time between the 1st Avatar film and the 2nd. You start putting them out back to back and people will start evaluating the films as individual films and not as a franchise
I must admit, it was a good run for those who turned the first one into their new religion, but now we’re headed towards Civil War with these announcements.
We won
Though it needed 2 billion to breakeven
Ooch, 4 and 5 will be a commercial for vegetarian meat!
Waste
Half of 4 ALREADY filmed. Such dumb article. MCU movies topping at $800 million now. What else will Disney make? You think they SIT on Avatar IP People are so dumb.
It’s really a great movie, don’t listen to reviews always go & give it a chance for yourself. Don’t let other ppl on the internet decide how you live😂
bakrus3000 1.4B and barely turning a profit? Lmfao
Haven’t seen 2 yet but if they don’t it would be the biggest mistake ever
I thought they were shooting them all at once
Why is the break even point 1.4B? Isn’t the budget around 350M?
Such a bad movie
Why would someone put that amount of time and effort into this movie and have the writing be this bad? It was a beautiful visually. Other than that, it was terrible.
If you really want to get down to the problem look into the correlation between nake shorts and AMCTheatres . As we speak, hedge fund bots are trying to dilute $amc $ape with synthetic shares and by spreading the misinformation that AvatarTheWayOfTheWater is a flop.
Zamasu_Kira
avatar 2 was better than endgame change my mind
Blue cat people 3,4, and 5.
The random twitter users that have been spending the last 3 weeks worrying about the break even point of avatar the way of water and its profit will now be able to sleep well at night
1.4 billion figure is nearly day old now. Should've passed or will pass top gun in like another 1 day.
But random Twitter people were telling me that it’s been making a profit and the idea that the movie needed to make this much money to start to turn a profit was absurd.
Well obviously since Avatar 2 made more money than the budget they had filming.
