Ethiopia's Ababel Yeshaneh smashed the women's half marathon world record by 20 seconds to win the Ras Al Khaimah event in the UAE

- Ethiopia’s Ababel Yeshaneh smashed the half marathon world record by 20 seconds on Friday to win the Ras Al Khaimah event in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

Marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei finished second, and her time was also two seconds inside Jepkosgei’s mark. Some earlier models of the shoe were banned by World Athletics last month, but the latest one launched by Nike complies with the rules to limit carbon plate usage and sole thickness for elite races.

Slugfest in Vegas sets record as most-watched Democratic primary debate everThe fiery candidate showdown among Democratic presidential candidates drew nearly 20 million viewers on NBC and MSNBC, a record high. Trump couldn’t stand up to one minute of debate in this format. A mental midget. He’ll find some excuse to weasel out of any debate in the future. A sad show indeed. It's as if Trump had the event paid for by his team. The lede on this story is questionable. I'm not sure Bloomberg's appearance has anything to do with viewership. The debate was fire. It was evident on social media. And I'd fathom that had a lot to do with viewership.

The High Fidelity Reboot Fails to Imagine a Real World in Which Women Are Into RecordsFor many, both versions of High Fidelity—the 1995 novel penned by Nick Hornby and the 2000 movie starring a single-jacket-owning John Cusack—are cult classics. They’re texts that get at the heart of what it’s like to be a person who is very into vinyl records if the only kind of person who can be very into vinyl records is a straight white man. That has been the portrait of the record-collecting nerd ever since the music-geek archetype fastened itself to pop culture. In American Splendor, it’s Harvey Pekar, played by Paul Giamatti; in Ghost World, it’s Steve Buscemi’s Seymour, and so on. On its surface, a gender-swapped reboot of High Fidelity, the new Hulu series starring the impossibly cool Zoë Kravitz, seemed to challenge that notion. Now that the 10-episode season has premiered, it’s clear that any hopeful rewriting was purely cosmetic. The record-collecting manchild trope remains. Watching the original through 2020 eyes shows how toxic and problematic a lot of the characters were. Can’t believe they thought it would be a good remake.
