The Texas A&M middle-distance runner is now the world leader three months before the Tokyo Games.

“Going into the race I didn’t know how I was going to run the race,” she told GigEm247. “There were other fast runners in the race and I didn’t know if I wanted to go out there, pace it myself and go run a fast time. I just wanted to come out here and see where I’m at, this is my first 800 meters this outdoors [season]. I was kind of skeptical of the first 200 meters. I didn’t know if I should go out or wait for someone else.

“I didn’t really have a goal, I kind of self-consciously thought ‘I may as well just come out here and run a collegiate record at 1:59,’” she said. “You could say I was thinking 1:59, but I also just wanted to come out here and be competitive and just run my race.”

EXPLAINER: Why India is shattering global infection recordsNEW DELHI (AP) — The world's fastest pace of spreading infections and the highest daily increase in coronavirus cases are pushing India further into a deepening and deadly health care crisis. While India is massive — it's the world's second-most populous country with nearly 1.4 billion people — its size also presents extraordinary challenges to fighting COVID-19. Some 2.7 million vaccine doses are given daily, but that's still less than 10% of its people who've gotten their first shot. Overall, India has confirmed 15.9 million cases of infection, the second highest after the United States, and 184,657 deaths. It’s an humanitarian catastrophe, their PM is in total denial. They must take drastic measures ASAP, stop all travel, slam the borders shut, lockdown, etc. biggest problem is the population density, a tragedy in progress, so sad, no hope in sight.
