I recently connected with Jeff Hanson, co-founder and CEO of Peter Manning to get the backstory on a menswear line for people of outstanding stature.Ha. I will send your appreciation. Peter and I met in 2012. I’d been working mostly in fashion and beauty and got introduced through a mutual friend. He’d always been frustrated finding clothes that fit. He’s five-foot-eight and thought it would be great to start a business that catered to people like him.
We live in a culture where tall is king. How big a challenge is that from a brand messaging perspective? The pendulum is swinging as we’ve generated critical mass. I think the direct sales approach is so helpful in getting guys over the hurdle. You don’t have to sneak in the back door someplace or feel embarrassed. From a marketing perspective, we don’t take ourselves too seriously and guys appreciate that. We’ll talk about “clothes for the not so tall guy” and a desire to avoid “pirate sleeves” and all that.
