LONDON - Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Nathan Law said on Monday that the “crazy” arrest of media tycoon Jimmy Lai marked the end of freedom of the press in the former British colony and the spread of the politics of fear. Lai, 71, has been one of the most prominent democracy activists in the Chinese-ruled city and an ardent critic of Beijing.
“Crazy arrests,” Law said. “The end of freedom of press in Hong Kong. The national security law is quashing the freedom of our society, spreading politics of fear.”
The law is waiting for Law.
UK should respond immediately given that Jimmy Lai is a UKcitizen . If you stay quiet and act slowly, CCP will be emboldened to take even more aggressive actions against the democratic community inside and outside of HK. MagnitskyAct sanctionCCP
Only in authoritarian counties would the police stormed into a press headquarter like this.
Soon only CCP propagandists will be left in HK under the flagrant oppression on press freedom. There will be no access to the truths, just like living in the world of ‘1984’.
Jimmy Lai was arrested. Countless police entered the media office (without showing warrant). Journalistic materials are being searched. Pro-dem & foreign media are barred from entering. Do u still believe press freedom exists in HK?
Press freedom is completely gone.
He is not a pro-democracy activist. He is trying to split the country and the turbulent society in the name of democracy.
Which one should be solved first? Your opinions are valuable. Pls do it.
You can thank me too
