Apple accidentally leaks a cool new Apple Watch feature

That’s the excellent Time To Walk feature which lets you listen to the musings and music of people from Dolly Parton to Jane Fonda when you go for a walk.To find this information in the new Mindfulness app makes perfect sense—it looks like it’s a longer version of the 60-second reflection contained in the app, only available to Fitness+ subscribers.

I’m all for this. I am a daily devotee, addict even, of the brilliant Headspace app and it’s increasingly important to me.The date first: since it wasn’t announced, my guess is that it won’t come until watchOS 8 is actually revealed. My guess is that it will be available on compatible hardware, that is, it won’t be restricted to this Fall’s Apple Watch Series 7, as it’s likely to be called.

And Apple’s pedigree with this kind of innovation is to provide something that’s accessible and available to all. It may not, actually I’m going to stick my neck out here and say it will not have the breadth of content and depth of subtlety of Headspace or 10% Happier. But a rising tide lifts all boats, as you know. And Apple is all about raising awareness of a topic like meditation, encouraging people to use its offerings as well as explore what other meditation options are available.

One thing’s for sure: the rumor that Apple was going to focus on mental health this Fall seems to be coming true.
