N.J. shuts Appalachian Trail shelter after bear slashes tent

Hikers walk on a section of the Appalachian Trail that runs through New Jersey. A black bear tried to nose its way into a tent in Stokes State Forest on Wednesday night, prompting the park service to announce that it was closing the Brink Road shelter to hikers.

Brink Road, a popular camping and water stop along the Appalachian Trail, is closed temporarily “due to increased bear activity,” the state Division of Parks and Forestry said in a Facebook post. A bear in the woods….what a surprise. Sleep where they do and you will probably have an encounter. Keep food in your tent will probably definitely have one.

Huh, perhaps a bear hunt to help control the population might be something to consider

GovMurphy should spend a night there in solidarity with the bears!

As gruesome as it is, an annual bear hunt is probably necessary. Seems to be a lot more encounters with people/pets this year. And will just get worse.

But bears are not a problem in NJ

Start up bear 🐻 hunting season!
