PHOTOS: Countdown clocks around Tokyo hit the 100-days-to-go mark Wednesday. With the Olympics closer, things are starting to stir around the venues, though not as much as you might expect. Many preparations are still up in the air amid the pandemic.

Much of the city will be watching Wednesday as the countdown clocks around town hit the 100-days-to-go mark. There is little movement around the Athletes’ Village, located near Tokyo Bay. The village will be tightly controlled during the Olympics, operating largely as a bubble for 11,000 Olympic athletes and 4.400 Paralympic athletes.

The new aquatic center, also near Tokyo Bay, just finished holding Japan’s national swimming championships. It’s already had a test run and has yielded a big story.

. Let's take back the organization of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games from China!!!!!!! My last text on my blog post - this topic!!!

😬

Guaranteed to be SUPER spreader event.

Covid cases are rising there. Close it down!!!

Still don’t understand why they went ahead with the Olympics under these circumstances 🤦🏻‍♂️

I feel badly, but at this point the pandemic is still out of control and there is no way it is going to be safe to hold the Olympics in 100 days.

Can we go somewhere today?

AP PHOTOS: Joy, tears, calls for change after Floyd verdictFormer Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin has been convicted of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, which set off worldwide protests, violence and a reexamination of racism and policing in America. The jury reached its verdict Tuesday, less than a year after Chauvin, who is white, pinned the 46-year-old Black man down with a knee to his neck last May. After the decision was announced, crowds across the country celebrated, honking car horns, streaming through the streets with signs of Floyd's face and breaking down in tears. But the joy was tinged with the realization that much work remains to be done to bring about lasting change.
