A look at the confirmation process that Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett will face, and what we know and don’t know about what’s to come:

FILE - In this June 2019 file photo the empty courtroom is seen at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington as the justices prepare final decisions of the high court's term. The Senate is ready to move quickly on a Supreme Court nominee. President Donald Trump is expected Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, to announce his replacement for the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

A confirmation vote so close to a presidential election would be unprecedented, creating significant political risk and uncertainty for both parties. Early voting is underway in some states in the races for the White House and control of Congress.A look at the confirmation process and what we know and don’t know about what’s to come:Barrett has been a federal judge in Indiana since 2017, when Trump nominated her to the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Once the committee approves the nomination, it goes to the Senate floor for a final vote. This could all happen by Nov. 3 if the process goes smoothly. Graham said he hopes the committee can move the nomination to the Senate floor by the week of Oct. 26 for a confirmation vote. At this point, McConnell seems to have lost the support of two Republicans — Maine Sen. Susan Collins and Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, both of whom have said they don’t think the Senate should take up the nomination before the election. Collins has said the next president should fill the court seat, and she will vote “no” on Trump’s nominee on principle. There isn’t much they can do.

The Senate would have until Jan. 20, the date of the presidential inauguration, to act on Trump’s nominee. If Trump were reelected and Barrett had not been confirmed by the inauguration, he could renominate her as soon as his second term began.

A powerful & timely “New Rules” message from Bill Maher. YOU would do well to heed it [again] before early voting starts. Elections DO have consequences. NEVER forget that.

A wish and express her desire to uphold Seperation of Church and State it seems the GOP, do not consider themselves abortion supporters. But they sure like to send your grown kids to get killed in continuous lifelong wars.your lifelong investment at their disposale

Wonder what the consequences are if all the democrat senators completely ignore all the normal confirmation procedures. These are not normal times and the focus should be kept on presidential elections. Deal with any consequences later.

i thought the left wanted women to become successful

Even with Trump’s rampant criminality, GOP cohorts still support him, so Boycott and VOTE to expel Trump / GOP organized crime. BidenHarris2020 Biden2020 — Read SethAbramson books and Twitter feed for extensive details on Trump/Russia/etc. organized crime.

Awesome pick 👏👏👏

Easy peasy

Vote the senator out this coming election if he/she votes to continue this process.

Whats next is she will be confirmed, and installed on the court, prior to election day. Amen.

“Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.” John F. Kennedy (not a commentary on John F. Kennedy)

“Don’t be too nice.”

Three years experience of being a judge does not qualify you to sit on the highest court. You need more experience at an entry level job

I couldn’t find the “unfounded sexual allegation” part of the process in your article. Did you forget to put it in or are they bypassing it and going straight to “attack her kids” this time?

Confirmation, bitches.

Odd, we have no constitutional requirement for a sideshow hearing. The votes exist out of committee as well as up/down on the floor to skip the formalities.

AP knows what we don't know ? The left is losing their collective shit yet again because the President is doing his job and not giving in to their emotional mind fuck circus act.

Here’s what we know: The republicans would vote yes on a month-old Jack-o-lantern right now if McConnell told them to. So none of it matters. Stop pretending that this is a legitimate process.

Every President Of the US has had the opportunity to nominate their choice for SCOTUS, and Trump is no different. The process continues. realDonaldTrump DonaldJTrumpJr TrumpWarRoom

Going after her because she’s a woman, a Catholic, and adopted 2 Black children is a very dangerous move which will cost them votes
