Ant Middleton's segment on This Morning sparks viewer backlash after TV sacking
Ant was on the ITV daytime show on Friday to plug his new book and tour but not everyone was impressed, reports the Newcastle Chronicle. In fact, some viewers were downright confused the presenter, who vanished from UK screens following the sacking, had reappeared.
Fans watching the show took to Twitter to express their discontent. One fumed: "Why are you giving Ant Middleton a platform?" with another viewer responding: "Interested to see if during Black History Month #ThisMorning bring up Ant Middleton referring to BLM as 'absolute scum'"
Others were taken aback by the backlash, with another Twitter user posting: "Why are people annoyed that @antmiddleton was on @thismorning? He apologised for a comment he made. Why do we in this country just have a horrible cancel culture and take things out of context? Does my nut in…." headtopics.com
A Channel 4 spokesperson told the Mirror at the time: “Ant Middleton will not be taking part in future series of SAS: Who Dares Wins."Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again."
However, during an appearance on the ITV daytime show Ant didn't discuss the incident with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.Instead, the former soldier spoke about his new book Cold Justice which is his 'heart-pounding debut thriller'.
Referring to the main character of his book, Ant explained: "Mallory is a warped version of myself if that exists. So he was in the military and he's after redemption because he made a huge mistake in the military, he gambled with a few lives, got it wrong, and had to leave because of the death of a couple of friends.
Reports suggested Channel 4' decision to cut ties with Ant stemmed from a now deleted tweet from last year in which he referred to to Black Lives Matter protesters as "absolute scum" when complaining about the "extreme left" and the English Defence League's "extreme right" taking to the streets. headtopics.com
Ant apologised telling fans he was "anti-racist and anti-violence" after deleting the post, but claimed it was his decision to walk away from Who Dares Wins. Read more: Mirror Celeb »
