But if you ask them, they’ll say it’s the Democratic Party that has left them behind, not the other way around. Another influential party leader, Rep. Pramila Jayapal , said earlier this month that antiabortion Democrats should face strong primary challengers. As a method of launching a court battle that may one day overturn Roe, Day says she supports the abortion bans passed this year. But, as a legislating tactic, they’re lacking without accompanying measures like paid family leave, she said — policies she believes also look out for humans after they’re born.
In 2006, a Democratic state senator sponsored a “trigger law” that would automatically ban abortions, except when birth threatens a mother’s life, in the event that Roe is overturned. Gov. Kathleen Blanco, also a Democrat, signed it into law, ensuring Louisiana would be among the first states to outlaw abortion should the Supreme Court reverse course.
Edwards says his views come from his religion, and though they may ostracize him nationally, they’re pretty natural in his home state. When Joe Biden was in his 30s, representing Delaware in the Senate, he said he believed Roe had gone “too far.” Soon after, he supported a constitutional amendment that would allow states to overturn the court’s decision on an individual basis. He called it, “the single most difficult vote I’ve cast as a U.S. senator.” An abortion rights group said it was “the most devastating attack yet on abortion rights.
That's a bold step
As a news organization that is inhabited by highly educated people, does it ever bother you that you support a position that allows irresponsibility to end innocent life? Just how is this better than a third world country who lacks the access to birth control?
Please. This is a “forced birth” Bill not a “pro-life” Bill.
Abortion should have nothing to do with political parties, it's a subject only between doctor and patient. Get off your high horses and stop judging people you do not know.
These things too shall pass
Ya baby.
I was a little surprised by that myself, but Louisiana is it's own world, much like Alabama Canjun cooking. I'll be so glad when SCOTUS finally rules on this, hopefully based solely upon medical science and legal precedent.
Liberals suddenly hate democrats now
SHAME!
WTF
BanViagra mandateVasectomy
Dem in a red state... well I say he won't be there for long!
It's insane how both parties in LA don't want to kill babies!!!! Crazy, right?
Nah,,,,,,, he aint no Democrat!
Told you some Democrats are just like well jerks. There in it for the power if it's a man it's a penis issue.
Don’t really give a shit what the political associations are - signing into law anything like this is reprehensible and immoral. Many southern Democrats are no different than other areas’ Republicans.
I fuckin hope not.
If they sign the bill that strips rights from women, they are no longer a Democrat.
Does citizenship start at that point too? Any rights, privileges, child support? If it’s life, it’s life then. 🤔so if anyone comes here and that child is citizen during pregnancy? So mother can file for any and all due it? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
You better not sign that unconstitutional crap!
IF MEN DON'T WANT WOMEN TO GET PREGNANT THEN MAKE THEM HAVE A VASECTOMY! IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO! THAT WON'T HAPPEN BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN WOMEN HAVING CONTROL OVER MENS BODIES!!!!!!
Ban abortion with exception's for rape/incest and health of the mom/baby 🙏🙏🙏
How can you have a 'deep red state' with a Dem Gov? It makes no sense. WP is full of sh* trying to misrepresent the situation and label pro lifers as red only and not blue. Pro lifers are in both parties. I know it's hard for you WP to be honest, but come on WP, don't put out BS
rainyjoan We have a big tent in the Democratic party but we have to draw the line at anyone who would sign, support, or introduce legislation that takes control over a woman's body out of her hands and into the hands of the state. We welcome real pro-life members, just NOT ANTI-CHOICE Dems
Purity tests are useless, but I think it's reasonable that someone calling themselves a Democrat supports: - a woman's right to choose - regulating guns - universal health care - a coherent strategy for combating climate change Anyone else is equally useless.
Why can’t we just let these Christian sharia law states have their own union of states? That way they can fend for themselves without federal tax money coming from coastal states. Then they can leave the rest of us the fuck alone to live how we want to.
Hey, WaPo, stop using 'pro-life' to describe anti-abortion extremists. They don't give a shit about life, just controlling women and cynically manipulating voters.
A Democrat elected in a red state is probably democrat centrist. I thought all the right wing “democrats“ had switched party?
Oxymoron
Is this a contest to be the worst shithole state in america?
One sane TheDemocrats
