Ane Brun Releases ‘How Beauty Holds the Hands of Sorrow’ — NORDIC STYLE MAG

Just a month after her most recent album ‘After The Great Storm’, Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun has released another full length record.

‘How Beauty Holds The Hand Of Sorrow’ is inspired by material Brun listens to while “winding down”, such as Sufjan Stevens and Nils Frahms. Her new record is soothing, and at times sombre. The album is a return to the musical style that made Brun famous. Piano ballads and softly plucked guitars are the main focus, but there’s also space for more enigmatic and cinematic pieces. ‘Last Breath’, for example, is a sweeping, grandiose reminder of the art of skilful composition.

Talking about why she wrote this album, Brun explains: ‘Over the years I’ve explored so many different sides to my musical self, and I feel lucky to have had the freedom and resources to experiment like this. But the ballads and the singer-songwriter style will probably always exist in my music-making and my performances, especially since I rework my more pop or electronic songs when performing alone or with a stripped-down ensemble. I love being in that intimate space.
