Amy Coney Barrett, who is all but assured of being confirmed to the Supreme Court next week absent a number of Republican senators being brought low by covid-19, has largely declined to discuss her membership in People of Praise, the somewhat secretive charismatic Catholic faith group she belonged to well into her adult years and likely still is a member of today. That People of Praise and more broadly her religious faith weren’t topics of discussion during her confirmation hearings was a calculated tactic embraced by Democratic senators to focus attention instead on her alarming views on health care, reproductive rights, and voting rights in an effort to remind voters of the high stakes of the election.\n

The AP interviewed Tom Henry, a former student at the Trinity School in Minnesota, who shared that in 2017, a time when Barrett was still serving on the board, he was told by the school’s headmaster that an anti-gay marriage policy was being added into the handbook:

Henry, who is gay, said he didn’t know what to say. He had been instructed not to answer questions about People of Praise or Trinity’s “politics.”

The dog whistles are sonic booms.

She said 'Sexual preference' on purpose, and then realized she fucked up. We see you, ACB.

GOP Hopes That Amy Coney Barrett Would Fire Up the Base FizzledIt’s unclear that killing Garland’s confirmation or forcing Kavanaugh’s did electoral magic for the GOP. The non-fight over Barrett sure won’t.

Amy Coney Barrett: Full Senate to vote on Trump's Supreme Court nominee on MondayThe full Senate plans to vote on Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court on Monday, likely allowing Barrett to take her place as the ninth justice just days before Election Day. If Biden wins in the house and the Senate are in the power of the Democrats, should they repeal the decision? Do they have that power according to the Constitution? Borderline criminal. The GOP would have voters believe they are trustworthy public servants and yet they perform this stunt just four years after blocking Obama from appointing Garland in an election year. It is all about power for the GOP. All their principles are gone.

What to Make of Amy Coney Barrett's Brand of 'Feminism'?The fact that Barrett has a uterus was something that the Senate Republicans touted as one of her greatest accomplishments. Or perhaps more accurately, what they seemed to be saying in their high praise for Barrett and her family was that it was astounding how much she had accomplished in spite of the fact that she has a uterus.
