Amtrak is investing $7.3 billion in a new fleet of state-of-the-art trains to modernize its aging fleet and attract more travelers.

is investing $7.3 billion in a new fleet of state-of-the-art trains, including some of its first hybrid-electric powered trains, to modernize its aging fleet and attract more travelers, the company said Wednesday.

Some of the new trains servicing the New York region will be powered by Amtrak's first hybrid-electric batteries, to cut back on air pollution. Amtrak is contracting with California-based Siemens Mobility Inc. to manufacture a new fleet of up to 83 multi-powered modern trainsAs Covid-19 restrictions ease, travelers are not only starting to board more flights, train ridership also continues to improve — approaching 60% of fiscal year 2019 levels. Over Fourth of July weekend, demand reached 80% of what it was two years ago, the company told CNBC.

The new trains will include remote monitoring and fully integrated digital diagnostics as well as more comfortable seating, individual power outlets and USB ports, onboard Wi-Fi, enhanced lighting and panoramic windows, larger vestibules, digital seat reservations and navigation display systems, the company said.

Amtrak did this without spending $1 trillion on infrastructure. Trillion dollars is all about rewarding 40+ years of patronage and unlocking campaign cash for 2022 at your expense. Real needs get through Congress. Trillion dollar projects about pork, patronage.

That's really not a lot of many in today's value. Besides, these trains are a failing mode of transportation. They have been for years.

How about dedicated 2 way track between Sacramento (maybe as far out as Auburn or Colfax) through Oakland to San Jose? How about an alternative to the ancient Martinez bridge? Can we get the average speed 70-100mph? Can we have additional shared BART/ACE/CALTRANS stations?

JY4CO_ Historically ; the American railway industry was a victim of the car manufacturers lobby.

Now if we had state-of-the-art train-tracks to go along with those state-of-the-art trains you’d be on to something.

Lower the prices..... just a thought.

Finally 😁

Amtrak Detroit to Chicago * 287 miles * 5 to 6 hours (if on time)… Not sure if $7bn will do.

Make it $1 per trip and then we'll talk. They don't get that it's actually offensive that they charge like $30 per trip for mass public transportation. We'd rather lose more money with cars than be dehumanized like that.

Translation: Taxpayers are footing the bill as this is a handout from Biden

Yeah but will the be faster than now ? Trains are so slow

Cool man. Now tell people about naked shorting, synthetic shares and dark pool trading.

They need high speed rail like overseas connections all over the US. Then they can attract more travelers. The US is soooo far behind. Amtrak

Amtrak make it high speed rail and state of the art trains 🚊 now you talking other than that “I RATHER FLY THAN RIDE Amtrak” E40
