CEOs can do much more to combat racial injustice, such as increasing opportunities for minorities. U.S. norms give executives wide latitude to do as they see fit, writes Three_Guineas.

U.S. companies including Intel, Netflix, Nike, Facebook, General Motors and Ford Motor have expressed concern about racial discrimination following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, in police custody on May 25. Floyd’s death has led to a wave of protests in U.S. cities.

Merck chief executive Kenneth Frazier said on CNBC on June 1 that Floyd “could be me.” Citigroup chief financial officer Mark Mason wrote a blog post about the issue on May 29. Apple chief executive Tim Cook sent employees a memo on May 31 about racial injustice and the company’s response.
