has just endured one of the most traumatic periods in its hundred-year history. As the theater chain looks to reopen 100 of its locations on Aug. 20 after shutting them down last spring during the coronavirus pandemic, it has hit on a novel way to bring back audiences while paying tribute to its past. For one day only, tickets at the theaters will sell for 15 cents, roughly the equivalent of what it cost to watch a movie in 1920.
Starting August 21, the chain will show a number of older films, such as a tenth anniversary edition of “Inception,” as well as “Back to the Future,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Grease” for $5 a ticket. The theater chain is also offering incentives to members of its subscription program, AMC Stubs A-List, by giving them a $10 credit to use through the end of October. It is also pledging not to increase prices on the subscription service through June 2021. The program enables users to see up to three movies a month for between $20 and $25.
Chinese OWNED AMC Theaters charging Americans $0.15 to super-spread the WuHan Virus COVID19 before the election!! Don't be stupid. BoycottAMC

Cinemas have alway gone for gimmicks for short-term success but need long-term policy changes to get people back into the cinemagoing habit longer-term, but since the 50s exhibitors have gone for gimmicks 3D, Cinerama and smellovision with modern day versions 3D, ScreenX and 4DX
AMCTheatres Additionally, your executives and reopening planning team should be disciplined for thoughtlessness, fined for creating a public health risk, educated on how pandemics fucking work, and fired. Preferably into the sun. With unemployment, though.
AMCTheatres I know this probably isn't the case and you just want to squeeze money out of people regardless of health risks (along with needlessly endangering your employees) but it's still not a great look in The Cursed Year Of Our Goddess 2020.
AMCTheatres hey so I'm going to do extrapolations for fun* and say this looks like an excuse to infect poor people who otherwise wouldn't go to the movies (assuming they make it past 'stay home in a pandemic')
Worry about the house parties.
If you don’t feel safe going to the movies don’t. They’ll be on VOD shortly after. And don’t just bash AMC but all theaters. I’ve been going to work everyday since this pandemic, been to numerous local establishments. I wear a mask, stay my distance, common sense.
This will bring back cinemagoers on August 20th but what about August 21st onwards exhibitors need to think long-term about getting people back to the cinema as Adam Aron has already said customers are going to pay for the extra safety measures.. so need more than one day gimmick
Hey AMCTheatres wouldn’t 19-cents be more on theme
Still won't be going, and I miss going to the theater...
Yeah, and $42 popcorn 🍿
alice969fm
Nice❣️ Wish they would open here. Sure miss going to the movies. Didn’t go very much but that once a year was nice.
So what. Who cares?
ReelTalker Oh cool. So like the prices during the last plague
Popcorn will be $20 for small size $20.50 for medium and $20.99 for large. It's a bargain I tell you!
Funny they’re doing 1920s prices, seeing as how there was pandemic then too
All this negativity online lol. If you don’t want to go, then don’t go. I’ll probably catch the movies earlier in the day with less people. I go to the one in Disney so they tempature check you before going in
Yeah but ambulance trip 14 days later can cost $2000
Is there going to be anything out that's worth the 15 cents?
I can wait
Free risk of lifetime debilitation or death with every ticket. Second prize winners will kill relatives.
But they make all their money on concessions (AKA: Possibly your last meal).
& $40 a popcorn lol
They can charge zero cents, still not stepping into a enclosed box with hundreds of strangers during an pandemic with an air borne pathogen...not even for Godzilla vs Kong and that one really hurts...
If my math is correct I can pay 15 dollars and buy out 100 tickets meaning I can empty out a large portion of seats... Still wouldn't do it
BREAKING NEWS: 15 CENTS FOR COVID!
Still not going.
Since my clearest COVID19 nightmare was about going to the movies, I will not be going until well after there's a vaccine. So...good luck? 15 cents is still too much to pay for a potential life-threatening nightmare experience.
So they’ll be packed 🥴 while people are still getting sick
People are dying to watch a movie in theaters. Covidiots
That's even cheaper than Kevorkian charged!
They’re going to get people killed
It's so moviegoers can use the rest of their money for their medical covid bills...
And a large soda and popcorn for $75.
That’s how you get those Covid sales!
