As part of a pledge to fight climate change, Amazon is purchasing 100,000 electric vans that will be used to make deliveries beginning in 2021.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced a broad plan on Thursday to fight climate change, including meeting the Paris climate agreement 10 years early, which will make the company carbon neutral by 2040.

As part of this pledge to fight climate change, Bezos announced Amazon will purchase 100,000 electric vans. These vehicles will begin making deliveries in 2021 and all 100,000 will be deployed by 2024, Bezos said.The vans will come from the electric vehicle company Rivian. Amazon led a $700 million investment round in the company earlier this year.

EVs will put massive strain on our local and regional power grids in the decades to come. We need to be extremely thoughtful about what powerplants are decommissioned and new ones built to replace the losses and accommodate increased demand.

It'll certainly help reduce pollution in the cities but it'll only the countries in general and climate change if the power comes from green sources, so I hope that's a requirement.

How will reliable, 24/7, electricity be produced? With more than 67% of global electricity production generated by fossil fuels, an additional 100,00 trucks running everywhere will increase electricity production. Giant, mystery power banks don't exist.
